Celtic Challenge Round 1: Westmeath 2-17 Roscommon 2-14
Westmeath U16 hurlers opened their Celtic Challenge campaign last Saturday in Dr. Hyde Park with a win over the Roscommon minor hurlers. Playing with the aid of the breeze in the first half, the Lake County took full advantage of the elements to lead by 2-11 to 0-5 at half time. Despite being reduced to 14 men for the second half, Westmeath managed the third quarter quite well to maintain a 9-point lead but a pair of Roscommon goals put the game in the melting pot down the home straight. The away side showed great maturity to ride out the storm though and a late pointed free sealed a 2-17 to 2-14 win.
Team: Kyle Carty, Sean Hand, Tom Leech, Jack Moran, Ciaran McGrath, Adam Kiernan, Calvin Collins, Billy Whelan, Ciaran Casserly, Ruairi Heffernan, Daniel Masterson, Jamie McGuinness, James Kenna, Jamie Leech, Daniel Crosbie, Evan Dunbar, Tommy Murray, Ciaran Mulvany, Jack Favier, Joseph Mulvey, Matthew O’Brien, Patrick Gill, Luke Gray, Adam Carey O’Callaghan
Next up is a round 2 clash at home to Down this Saturday (11th April). The game will take place in Brownstown hurling club in Archerstown, throwing in at 12:00.
