Westmeath hosted their counterparts from Antrim in Clonmellon last Saturday. Playing with the aid of the breeze in the first half, the home side went into the interval with a 2-12 to 1-10 lead. Antrim set about eating into the deficit after the break and had drawn level by the three-quarter mark. A further burst of scores from the away side saw them gain a 7-point lead and although Westmeath rallied to reduce the gap, it was not enough to close the score by full time.

The result leaves the Lake County with one win from two games, trailing behind the Glensmen who have a 100% record. Westmeath will wrap up their group stage on Saturday 25^th July when they host Dublin, where a win would likely seal 2^nd place in the group. Many thanks to St. Paul’s for hosting the game.

Westmeath sealed 2^nd place in their John Doyle group last Saturday courtesy of victory over Limerick in a game played in Fr. Dalton Park in Ballymore. Playing into the breeze in the first half, the home side kept the gap down to a manageable two points, trailing by 0-9 to 1-4 at the interval.

While both teams upped the scoring rate after the break, Westmeath proved to be more clinical, with three goals proving crucial in minimising the effect of two majors for Limerick. Allied with efficient free taking from Ben Loughlin, Westmeath sealed the victory on a 4-14 to 2-14 scoreline. Westmeath will now play in an away quarter final on Saturday 25^th July, with their opponents to be confirmed following results in the other groups.

Two U14 hurling teams went in separate directions last Saturday, with one heading to Kilkenny to play the Cats, and another going to Dunganny to play Meath. Both teams played in high quality games that will develop all players for the future.

All football squads trained last weekend in Rosemount. The U15 footballers are in Dermot Earley action this Saturday, hosting Carlow in Hogan Park Moate at 12:00.
