On a lovely, April evening in Tubberclair, Mick Dillon’s side travelled to take on Carlow in their preliminary quarter final.
After a first half against whatever bit of a breeze was prevalent, our side trailed 1-09 to 0-05 at the break.
However, hope was not lost with 1-04 coming from full forward Aaron Connaire, accompanied by substitute Conor Cleary’s point, captain’s Dean Kelly’s two-pointer and Darragh Deegan’s 0-02, we were firmly back in it!
It was a draw game with 10 to go, however this resilience side dug deep and defended tremendously with some great shots stopped by young Mullingar Shamrock’s man Tom McCaul in the nets.
Westmeath ran out winners 1-14 to Carlow’s 1-12. Well done to all involved. We now take on Kildare on Tuesday in an away fixture, TBC.
