Leinster MFC: Westmeath 1-16, Dublin 1-12
Last night, our Minor Footballers were in Kinnegad for their second group game against Dublin in what can only be described a thrilling game!
Westmeath led from the beginning with Stephen McWade clocking 5 points including a 2 pointer to open the scoring of the night. Moate’s Darragh Murray kicked a fine two-pointer along with Alex Mullen Adamson and Aaron Connaire keeping the scoreboard ticking for the side while captain Dean Kelly put us 7 points clear at the break.
However, Dublin could never be written off as they rallied back into the game and Cian Raftery from Whitehall kept his side well and truly in it. Tom Weir, Conor Cleary and Murray all kept us ahead, until Raftery’s free put them up by 1 in the 50th minute.
Dillon’s men were not going to let this go, as Connaire responded quickly with a score followed by Dean Kelly raising the green flag after a superb run from the centre. Dublin had their chances to equalise however it was Kelly again who kicked the final score of the game to leave Westmeath winners by 4.
Well done to all involved in this fantastic game of football. We play Offaly on April 14th in a Westmeath venue TBC.
