The modern GAA world has embraced statistics and facts in a phenomenal way in recent years with the likes of Limerick’s stats man extraordinaire Sean O Donnell regarded in their set up as being as important as Paul Kinnerk. The Minor Board’s Under 12 Festival of Hurling and Football held on Thursday evening, Friday evening and all day Saturday in TEG Cusack Park produced a few notable statistics.
23 matches were played across the 3 days, 46 clubs participated, 848 eleven and twelve year olds experienced playing a 15 a side game in TEG Cusack Park, 162 coaches cajoled and encouraged their young charges, 21 referees, ranging in age from 25 to 76, took charge of proceedings, three 16 year old boys flawlessly operated the scoreboard and hooter system for every game, 1,254 patrons attended the Festival, 480 souvenir programmes, including every player and coach’s name, were sold out, 1 Delaney Cup was present for every team photo and 0 complaints about any aspect of the weekend were heard!
The only stat we don’t have a record of was the number of bottles of water consumed by the participants across three sweltering days but it must have been in the thousands. Credit to the environmental awareness of all those involved that the dressing rooms, pitch, dugouts and other areas were left bottle free afterwards. Well done to everyone on a wonderful weekend.
