U15 Hurling John Doyle Cup Quarter Final
Westmeath 3-15 Antrim 5-14
The U15 team hosted Antrim in their John Doyle Cup Quarter Final in St. Paul’s GAA, Clonmellon last Saturday. Playing with the wind in the first half, Westmeath failed to take advantage of the elements and went into the break down by 2-8 to 0-11.
A battling second half saw each side score three goals, with the Westmeath majors bringing the Lake County men back into contention each time. Ultimately, the Glensmen were able to do enough to keep Westmeath at bay and win out by 5-14 to 3-15. The result means Westmeath will now compete in the John Doyle Shield on Saturday 15th August in Tipperary, with their opponents yet to be confirmed.
Both pitches were utilised on Saturday in Clonmellon as Antrim brought down a second team to play against the extended Westmeath squad. Many thanks to St. Paul’s on hosting and well done to all players from both sides for putting on two exciting encounters.

Two Westmeath teams were on the road last Saturday for blitzes. One team travelled to Carnmore in Galway and took part in games against Galway, Kildare and Laois. The other outfit were in Fenagh in Carlow to play sides from Carlow and Wicklow. Well done to all players who will now round off their year with their final set of games on Saturday 15th August.
