Our football squads take part in their final games of 2026 this coming Saturday (1st August).
The U16 footballers go in search of a first Ted Webb Cup, taking on Cork in Ballyhaunis GAA grounds at 2:30. Both teams have won all their games so far so the form lines are similar, with Westmeath qualifying courtesy of a facile semi final win over Dublin, and Cork beating Meath by 6-13 to 3-14 in Rathdowney. Westmeath mentors Ken Berry, Cathal Tighe, Ronan Farrell, Brendan Lynn and David Scahill have prepared the team diligently and will be hopeful of getting a performance from the team on Saturday.
The U15 Dermot Earley Football team can seal the title for third year running if they get a result in their home game with Wexford. The game in Rochfortbridge throws in at 12:30. The Humphrey Kelliher Cup team will round off their campaign with a trip to Antrim to take on the Saffron County. At the time of writing, the venue for this game had yet to be confirmed.
The U14 footballers head east to Ballinakill to take part in a blitz with sides from Carlow, Wexford and Wicklow. Two Westmeath teams will take part, with the games starting at 11:00 and the final games at 1:30.
Best wishes to all teams on Saturday and we encourage patrons to offer support to teams where possible.
