All football squads were out on their penultimate day of games last Saturday. The U16 squad qualified for a first Ted Webb Cup final courtesy of a comprehensive win over Dublin in TEG Cusack Park. The Westmeath lads showed a clinical edge in front of goal to snuff out the challenge of their metropolitan opponents and will now play Cork in the final on Saturday 1^st August in Ballyhaunis GAA grounds.

The U15 teams were in action in separate locations. The Dermot Earley Cup team maintained their 100% record with a 1-21 to 0-6 win over Tipperary in Thurles, a result which maintains their position on top of the group. Westmeath will be at home to Wexford in their final game, whereby any positive result will seal the title for the third year in a row for Westmeath. The Humphrey Kelliher lost out to Waterford by 2 points in Kinnegad but gave a positive account of themselves in doing so. Their final game in the competition will be away to Antrim on Saturday week.

The U14 squad travelled Fenagh to take on outfits from Carlow and Laois. With numbers reduced due to holidays, the 30 Westmeath players gave a good account of themselves in both games and will face one more date of games on Saturday 1^st August.

All hurling squads are out this Saturday in their second last date of games. The U16 hurlers will face Dublin in their final group game in Clonkill at 12:00. With a win over Meath and a loss to Antrim so far, a win here for Westmeath would guarantee 2^nd spot in the group.

The U15 hurlers will host Antrim in their John Doyle Cup Quarter Final in St. Paul’s GAA Clonmellon at 12:00. Westmeath topped their group in the competition courtesy of wins over Dublin and Limerick, whilst Antrim finished second in their group after wins over Wicklow and Carlow so a tight affair is expected to ensue.

The U14 hurlers will be on the road. One team will travel to Galway to take on the Tribesmen whilst the other team will travel to Carlow to take on the Barrowsiders. At the time of writing, the venues for these games had yet to be confirmed.

Coaching and Games are organising regional meetings with cluster of clubs. The meetings will offer clubs the chance to offer feedback whilst also identifying where resources can be pooled to help develop Gaelic Games in the county. The details of meetings have been provided to club coaching officers and will take place over the coming weeks.

Westmeath GAA are happy to announce that JP Bracken will take on a role as a Games Development Coordinator (GDC) with the county in August. JP was previously a Participation Officer with Mullingar Shamrocks and St. Oliver Plunkett’s, and is currently the hurling GDC for Longford. He will take up the GDC role vacated by Emmet Corrigan who is now the County Performance and Talent Development Lead, with JP’s role entailing a specific focus on hurling in the county. Congratulations to JP on securing the GDC role and best wishes to him on this new position.
