On Saturday, in St.Brendan’s Park Birr, our minor hurlers took to the field in a game of 4 seasons.
Against the strong wind, Westmeath gaels watched on in the hope that the lads could stay with Offaly for the opening 30 minutes and make the most of the conditions for the second half.
At half time, Westmeath trailed 2-10 to 0-09, but hope was certainly not lost.
Westmeath started the second half with scores from Conor Williams and Dara Geary before Eoghan Beehan raised the green flag, not once, but twice in a matter of moments! At the 47th minute, it was a draw game and all to play for.

However, Conor Raleigh went on and scored 3 points, alongside Conor Williams who popped over 2 frees to keep momentum. Team, management and supporters all felt at ease when Cullion’s Aidan Doyle scored a fantastic goal before dual player Dean Kelly put his name on the scoreboard and finished the game leaving Westmeath 7 point winners.
Westmeath 3-18
Offaly 2-14
Ger Beehan’s side now play Kilkenny next Saturday in a Westmeath venue TBC. Well done to all involved!!
