This week’s midweek fixtures unfortunately didn’t follow the winning trend of last weekend’s games as our Minor Footballers fell short to neighbours Offaly in Kinnegad on Tuesday night and our U20 footballers against Kildare on Thursday evening in a sunny TEG Cusack Park.
Our minors showed great team spirit to battle it out to the end, however Offaly goals were just too much for Mick Dillon’s men to catch up on and ultimately puts them into a preliminary quarter final on Tuesday, April 29th in Tubberclair at 7.30pm v Carlow.
Our U20’s, in a refixture following an abandonment of the game in Kinnegad last week, took to the field in very different conditions. A strong wind into the Dunnes end meant that the visitors took full advantage of the two point option and went 1-12 ahead in the opening 16 minutes. However in the second half Will Scahill clawed it back to a 4 point trail, using his skill and ability and raise the orange flag himself.
In the end, it was just too much for McKinley’s men to get back on top and they have been knocked out of the championship.
A special mention to Kenny McKinley and his management for their work with our U20 side, they have shown great resilience and skill throughout their campaign and we wish them all the best for their future.
