U16 Hurling Development Squad
Celtic Challenge Round 1: Westmeath 1-11 Down 2-8
Westmeath U16 hurlers continued their Celtic Challenge campaign last Saturday in Fr. O’Reilly Park in Archerstown, battling against the elements to secure a draw with the Down minor team. The result means that Westmeath and Down are both on 3 points in the group, with Westmeath set to face Mayo in the final round of the group stage on Saturday 25th April at a Mayo venue, and Down set to face Roscommon. Many thanks to Brownstown for hosting the game and having the pitch in good condition, despite the weather conditions.
Development Squads
The U15 hurlers’ scheduled Hibernia Cup clash with Limerick last Saturday fell foul of the weather and travel issues for Limerick and will be refixed for a later date. The U16 footballers took on Longford in a challenge game last Saturday in Carrickedmond, in preparation for their Ted Webb clash this coming Saturday against Meath. The U14 and U15 squads in both codes will have a break this weekend, as the county football Feile takes place.
Primary Teacher Gaelic Games Education Course
Athlone Education Centre, in conjunction with Westmeath GAA, is running a Summer Course for Primary School teachers entitled “Leading Gaelic Games in Primary Schools”. The course will take a blended learning approach, with two days in person in St. Joseph’s SS Rochfortbridge and three days online. The course will focus on developing physical literacy and movement skills, developing coaching programmes and integrating Gaelic Games into a PE Curriculum.
