Our Senior Footballers made their competitive debut in TEG Cusack Park for 2026 on Sunday, January 25th. In a game attended by large crowds, Mark McHugh’s men fought until the end to claim their 2 points for the Allianz League table!
Two first half goals from Allianz Team of the Week player Jonathan Lynam put us in front at the break, 2-09 to 0-07. However, this lead was narrowed in on by Sligo, who showed great determination to come back and left the dying moments of the game exciting. Substitute Sam McCartan fisted the ball over the bar to draw level just as we anticipated the full time whistle but there was time for more. Great team work by our men won the kickout, and allowed for substitute Shane Corcoran to find the winner, giving his county a deserved win on the day in our home grounds. Final score: Westmeath 2-14 / Sligo 1-16
Well done to Mark McHugh and team and now all roads lead to Ennis this weekend to support the footballers in round 2 on Sunday.
