Westmeath Stars Supporting Darkness Into Light This Weekend

A numbers of Westmeath stars came together to help launch the 2018 Darkness into Light 5km walk this year. Westmeath Ladies footballers Laura Brennan and Laura Walsh were joined by Senior footballers James Dolan and Kieran Martin. Darkness into Light 2018 will take place on the 12th May at 4:15am. It is a 5km walk to raise money to support Pieta house who are a non-profit organisation providing a specialized treatment programme for people who have suicidal ideation or who participate in self-harming. Pieta house has been helping a great many people in the Athlone offices since it opened last year and the money raised by the Darkness into Light walk helps to fund this essential support.

The Athlone walk begins and ends in the Athlone Town Stadium, goes through Athlone town centre and passes by the new Pieta house offices on Sean Costello street while the Mullingar walk will start at Gaelscoil An Mhuilinn. All participants are invited into the Athlone Town stadium and Gaelscoil An Mhuilinn for refreshments after the walk.

This year, all participants of the DIL 5km walk must register online before the event at https://dil.pieta.ie/event-information/venues/athlone and the special DIL t-shirt will be posted out to each participant. Local registration events will be held in the Pieta House offices, watch the Facebook page for details https://m.facebook.com/Darkness-into-Light-Athlone-428456317257500/

A wall of remembrance will be available on the night to pin a photo of loved ones who were lost to suicide. There will also be a silent kilometre of remembrance during the walk.
